I joined the ATC in November 2000, as soon as I reached the age of 13, at 1159 (Edmonton) Squadron where I have, so far, reached the rank of Flight Sergeant.
I have achieved a lot in my time as a cadet such as my BTEC in Aviation Studies, Staff classification, a First Aid at Work certificate, Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and I am waiting to attend the palace to complete my Gold. I also took part in Expedition Steppes Eagle, an expedition to China and Mongolia in 2005, which so far has been the best experience in my life. I have just completed and passed a Basic Expedition Leaders Award (BELA) which I hope will be useful during Expedition Jubilee Eagle. I have also completed both RAF WARMA and the Nijmegen International march in Holland.
I have been very lucky and have been awarded a Gliding Scholarship where I achieved my silver wings, a Flying Scholarship where I flew solo for an hour and also a Hang Gliding and Paragliding Scholarship. I have been on many camps both at wing level and corps level.
One of the highlights of my cadet career was winning the best NCO award at my squadron’s annual award night and having it presented it to me by the then Chief of Air Staff, Sir Jock Stirrup.
At my squadron I am responsible for the adventure training stores, Radio Officer and deputy adjutant; I am also the bass drummer in the squadron band.
Outside of cadets I work for Everest fitting double glazing windows but I am hoping to join the RAF as Weapon Systems Operator.
