Hi, I’m Ed Sterry and have been in the Air Training Corps since January 2003. I currently hold the rank of Sergeant, and I am head bandsman and head of sports at 2236 (Stanmore) Squadron.
I have achieved many things whilst in the corps, including representing the wing with various sports, attaining Duke Of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver level (to be Gold), and I won, with my squadron ensemble, the Corps Ensemble Award in 2005, which was a great achievement. I have also achieved best cadet and best bandsman at my squadron, and am lead drummer in the squadron band.
I study at St Joan of Arc Sixth Form College, and I am in my first year. I am studying Geography, Psychology, Music and Religious Studies. After college, I want to go to university and go on to be a commercial airline pilot. Either that or a professional rock star, but that is very unlikely to happen.
In my spare time, I do a lot of musical activities, including playing the piano, the bass guitar, and, most importantly, drums, in my band, The Detour. We play a lot of gigs around London, and hope to make it big in the upcoming years. We have had a lot of interest from various promoters, and small record labels, and are waiting for the right people to take us to the “top”! We will see what happens with that in the near future.
I am really looking forward to going to Ghana, as this is one of those things that people would call “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”, and I really hope it will be.
