I joined the Air Training Corps in February 2005 and since then have loved every minute of it!

I get a thrill from every activity in the ATC, whether it is shooting various weapons, flying in either our basic two man Tutor aircraft or the monster of a Hercules, or any form of adventurous sports and activities available to me. Some may say I am mad, but I also have a liking for drill, whether it is basic or rifle drill and really enjoy teaching others, such as new recruits that join our squadron.

As you can probably tell, I am a bit of an “ATC addict” and this trip for me is great, not only gaining satisfaction from having the chance to make a difference to the children’s lives but also to explore the country. Although I have been to several countries in Europe, I have never had the privilege to visit the continent of Africa, so it is a first for me!

I also hope to use this as an opportunity to gain my gold Duke of Edinburgh’s award, as I already have my bronze and should have gained my silver before we depart.

I believe that I am an all-rounder at many sports and love anything to do with sport whether I have played it before or not. As a keen cross-country runner this year, I like to keep reasonably fit and in addition to this I love a new and thrilling challenge and so I have my sights set on climbing Mount Afadjato, whilst trekking through the secondary rain forest, encountering all the various forms of wildlife - BRILLIANT!

I hope to gain much, much more from the ATC in my time within the organization and I hope I receive many more chances like this one. I hope to gain promotion in the not-too-distant future and wish to prove myself further, after gaining best NCO on summer camp last year and representing the wing and region in many activities since I have joined. So hopefully more opportunities will come way, because I have so much I want to do and have set my targets high!
