I joined 85 squadron as a tiny cadet way back in 2001. I joined because I’ve wanted to be a pilot for as long as I can remember and hearing about the Air Cadets from a cadet at school convinced me to give it a try - something I have no regrets about.
Through my time in the ATC I’ve managed somehow to reach the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer and during that time I’ve done so much I could never write it all here. I have been to countless camps at various bases, I did my gliding scholarship when I was 16 and got my silver wings after flying solo. That then led on to my micro-light scholarship which again I flew solo on. I’ve also done the RAF Regiment camp which is probably one of the best experiences I’ve had in the ATC along with a 5 hour flight, flying as a passenger in a C-130K Hercules doing air-to-air refuelling with a VC-10 tanker.
I’ve got loads of cadet related things lined up for the New Year: a skiing trip in January, Expedition Jubilee Eagle (obviously), RIAT and hopefully Nijmegen during the summer. So a very busy 2007, especially when I’ve still got coursework to do and my part time job at PC World. I’m already sure this expedition is going to be the highlight of my time in the Cadets; I am particularly looking forward to the project refurbishing the school, being a family with parents and aunties who are both primary school teachers I know how important learning at a young age is. However I’m not however looking forward to the mosquitoes and the various things that come with them. I know it’s going be a trip of a lifetime and I can’t wait!
