I joined the Corps in March 1979 at 444 (Shoreditch) Squadron in London Wing. I enjoyed much of what the Corps had to offer, and was a keen sportsman, shooter and bandsman. In addition to flying activities, I took part in a great variety of adventure training including parachuting. I particularly enjoyed the camps and courses, of which I did a great number. After completing my cadet service as a Cadet Warrant Officer, I was commissioned in May 1989.
Having moved home, I transferred to 1159 (Edmonton) Squadron over Christmas in 1989, and thus joined Middlesex Wing. I aspired to produce as good a squadron as I had left and over the next twelve-and-a-half years I enjoyed being part of a highly successful and ever challenging unit. I assumed command in 1992 and remained at 1159 until 2002.
Having taken on an extra role as the Middlesex Wing BTEC in Aviation Studies project officer in 1999, I left 1159 to take up a full time post as the Wing Training Officer. I remained in this post until transfer to Region Staff, and my current post as Region Training Officer in April 2004.
I have always been an advocate of living up to the Corps’ motto: Venture Adventure. I think it important to test myself and take on fresh and exciting challenges that the Corps continues to offer. Having taken part in Volcano Eagle to Ecuador in 2003, and Steppes Eagle to Mongolia in 2005, I look forward with great excitement to our latest ‘Eagle’ adventure!
