Command Team › Civilian Instructor: Paul Rignall

Paul Rignall's photo

I have been a member of 86 (Heston & Isleworth) Squadron since October 1999. In my time as a cadet I did most things that were on offer: flying, gliding, shooting, adventure training, band and sports. After reaching the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer, I expired as a cadet in September 2006 and became a Civilian Instructor. I intend to stay in this position for a while before possibly going back into uniform as adult staff.

Outside of cadets I am currently in my second year at Imperial College London reading Aeronautical Engineering. When I’m not hard at work, I attempt to mix this with other activities such as gymming, swimming, computing, gigging, and cinema-ing.

I’ve done lots of adventure training at Capel Curig in North Wales. I was also part of Expedition Steppes Eagle to Mongolia, which was probably the highlight of my cadet career. My experience there has made me eager to travel more and I hope to gain as much from this expedition to Ghana as I did from Mongolia. (The photo on this page is of me and Gendengonchig, the chief wrangler who guided us as we trekked through Mongolia. I am the one on the left!)

I’m particular looking forward to meeting the Ghanaian Cadet Corps and experiencing life in a jungle. I think there will also be a chance to appreciate just how fortunate it is to grow up in the UK when we see what the Ghanaian school and village is like. Most of all, on their 50th anniversary of independence I’ll be pleased to join the locals in “Helping Ghana Celebrate”!
